Fresh off a win over previously unbeaten Billy Evangelista at Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Feijao” event, Jorge Masvidal could welcome K.J. Noons back to the lightweight division at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” on April 9, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently told MMAjunkie.
Masvidal’s (21-6) win over Evangelista was the fourth in six bouts for the Bellator and Sengoku vet who was coming off a loss to Paul Daley, while Noons (9-2) fell to welterweight champ Nick Diaz in October after six-straight wins.
Diaz defends the 170-pound title against Daley in the main event of the April 9 Showtime-televised event from San Diego, California, which also includes lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri, Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle, and Shinya Aoki vs. Lyle Beerbohm.

Former top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko is “seriously considering” dropping to 205-pounds to challenge newly-crowned champion Dan Henderson for the Strikeforce light heavyweight title, according to Fighters Only.
Talk of the matchup emerged after Henderson’s third-round TKO of former title-holder Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante headliner, but Strikeforce had reportedly already talked to Emelianenko about the potential superfight.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told MMAjunkie that discussions are only in the preliminary stages and the fight wouldn’t take place until after June or July when Henderson planned to return.
Henderson (27-8) has won two-straight and five of six after falling to Jake Shields in his Strikeforce debut last year, while Emelianenko (32-3) is coming off back-to-back losses to Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva that snapped a 28-fight, 10-year winning streak.
If Emelianenko decides against dropping to light heavyweight, Henderson could move up for the matchup, Fedor could return as an alternate in Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament, or Emelianenko could face the loser of Werdum vs. heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem.

Bellator 35′s welterweight tournament winners Lyman Good, Jay Hieron, Rick Hawn, and Brent Weedman each earned $20,000 for their quarterfinal victories, which also kicked off Bellator’s fourth season on MTV 2 from Lemoore, California.
Weedman was the lone tourney fighter to receive a medical suspension, as he’ll wait 60 days or until cleared by a doctor to face Hieron in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal between Good and Hawn has been booked for Bellator 39 on April 2, which is headlined by lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez vs. Pat Curran.
The losers of the opening round bouts, Chris Lozano, Anthony Lapsley, Jim Wallhead, and Dan Hornbuckle, earned $10,000 apiece.
The event’s other notable medical suspension went to 115-pound women’s champ Zoila Frausto, who was suspended six months unless a possible fracture in her right hand is cleared.

After being forced out of the UFC Fight Night 24 main event against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by a cut, Tito Ortiz is hoping for a quick return to the Octagon and wants the UFC to book a rubber match with fellow former champion Forrest Griffin.
“Hopefully in May or June,” Ortiz told MMAFighting. “It’s up to Dana and the UFC to let the fight happen. I know people want to see me fight again, so let’s do a Forrest-Ortiz 3. He’s a former world champion, our last two fights have been awesome – so let’s just put on a 3.”
Ortiz (15-8-1) edged The Ultimate Fighter winner Griffin by split decision in their first meeting in 2006, which was also the last year Ortiz recorded a win. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” is winless in five-straight, including a split decision loss to Griffin in their rematch in 2009 and a unanimous decision defeat to Matt Hamill in his most-recent fight in October.
Griffin (18-6) topped Rich Franklin last month at UFC 126 for his second-straight win following back-to-back losses to Rashad Evans and Anderson Silva.
Likely UFC fight cards for the potential matchup include “UFC 131: Lesnar vs. dos Santos” on June 11 in Vancouver and UFC 132 on July 2 in Las Vegas.
