Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen, Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard Possible for UFC 125

Chael Sonnen will get another shot at middleweight champ Anderson Silva as early as UFC 125 on Jan. 1 in Las Vegas, but the anticipated rematch could be pushed back to UFC 127, the UFC’s expected Super Bowl weekend event on Feb. 5, as Silva recovers from a rib injury.
“There’s absolutely going to be a sequel,” Sonnen said Thursday on ESPN’s MMA Live. “Part two is tentatively scheduled for New Year’s weekend. It may take place Super Bowl weekend. Either way it’ll be in Vegas. It’s gonna be a big deal.”
Sonnen promised a different outcome than their first meeting at UFC 117 in August, which saw Sonnen dominate Silva for four-and-a-half rounds only to be submitted in the closing minutes.
“Last time I defeated the myth, this time I’m gonna defeat the man. The only thing different is I’m leaving there with the belt. That’s it. We were one minute away from pulling it off. If I [had] beat him I’d have to come back and beat him again anyways. Nothing in my career has changed. I was the best fighter before that fight and I’m the best fighter after it.”
A rematch between lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard is also slated for early next year and could co-headline the UFC 125 fight card, though UFC 126 is also expected for later in January in Pittsburgh.
