Dana White: UFC Had No Plans to Counter Strikeforce on April 17, Eyes Jake Shields

UFC News – MMA And UFC News From Syndicated Sources

UFC President Dana WhiteAfter Sunday’s UFC on Versus 1 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White commented to reporters on Strikeforce’s April 17 return to CBS, whether the UFC planned to counter-program the event, and the future for Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields, including a possible move to the UFC:

“I was never putting an April 17 show on. The media started calling me and asking me, so I just let it ride out and let [Strikeforce] sweat it. F*** them. They want to compete with us? Let’s do it. These guys consider themselves a competitor, and I like to compete. I can’t always say exactly what’s going on. I really, really, really dislike these guys at Showtime. We’re going to fight until somebody goes away, and believe me, it’s going to be them.”

“Dan Henderson’s fighting Jake Shields. Are you serious? Jake Shields is 170 pounds and he’s their (185 pound) champion? Jake Shields is on the last fight of his contract, so they’re feeding him to Dan Henderson right now because they want to get rid of him. They’re a joke.If Jake Shields could pull that off, that’d be incredible, and good for him. He’s going to get paid, because we would love to take him, and I’m sure they’d love to pay him to stick around, and I will help drive that number through the roof and let Showtime pay him a lot of money so Jake can stick it right up their ass.”
