Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Rematch Headlines UFC 119
UFC News – MMA And UFC News From Syndicated Sources
A rematch between former heavyweight title-holders Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will headline UFC 119 on September 25 in Indianapolis, UFC President Dana White today confirmed to MMA Fighting.
As reported earlier today, Nogueira’s twin brother, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, faces fellow light heavyweight contender Ryan Bader in the UFC 119 co-main event.
After appearing as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 8, Mir became the first man to stop Nogueira when they squared off at UFC 92 in December 2008, scoring a second-round TKO to win the interim heavyweight title.
Mir (13-5) then lost to heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar last July at UFC 100 before rebounding with a first-round submission of Cheick Kongo in December. At March’s UFC 111, Mir suffered a first-round KO to Shane Carwin in an interim title bout.
Nogueira (32-6-1) bounced back from the loss to Mir with a unanimous decision over UFC hall of famer Randy Couture in August, but suffered a first-round KO to heavyweight contender Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 in February.
Despite a five-fight losing streak, heavyweight kickboxer Mark Hunt (5-6) is reportedly set to make his UFC debut against undefeated newcomer Sean McCorkle on the UFC 119 fight card, which also also includes Chris Lytle, Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham, Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens, and Joey Beltran vs. Matt Mitrione.
