Jake Shields Likely to Face Martin Kampmann in UFC Debut

UFC News – MMA And UFC News From Syndicated Sources

Contrary to earlier reports, former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields has not yet signed with the UFC, but has agreed to terms with the promotion and is expected to make the deal official shortly.

Shields (25-4-1), who is currently riding a 14-fight win streak that includes an April win over Dan Henderson, is expected to meet welterweight contender Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut, possibly at October’s UFC 121 in his native California, MMA Fighting reports.

Kampmann (17-3) earned a unanimous decision over Paulo Thiago at June’s UFC 115 and had hoped to fight recent welterweight challenger Dan Hardy, but Hardy was instead booked to face former WEC champ Carlos Condit at October’s UFC 120.

The UFC 121 fight card is headlined by heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez.
