Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields has officially signed with the UFC and will return to 170-pounds when he makes his Octagon debut against welterweight contender Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 on October 23 in his native California.
“UFC contract officially signed. Fighting Kampmann in CA in a few months. Thanks to Dana White and everyone for their support,” Shields announced this afternoon on Twitter.
Shields (25-4-1) extended his winning streak to 14-straight with a unanimous decision over UFC veteran Dan Henderson in April in his final Strikeforce bout.
Kampmann (17-3) topped Paul Thiago at UFC 115 in June for his second-straight win and fourth victory in his last five fights.
The UFC 121 fight card is headlined by heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez.
