Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard UFC 118 Winner Gets Lightweight Title Shot
UFC News – MMA And UFC News From Syndicated Sources
The winner of Saturday’s UFC 118 matchup between lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard will earn the next shot at the 155-pound title, UFC President Dana White announced at Wednesday’s pre-UFC 118 press conference in Boston.
Since losing to champ BJ Penn last August, Florian (14-4) has scored back-to-back submissions of Clay Guida and Takanori Gomi and has won 8 of his last 9 fights.
Maynard (9-0) has won seven-straight UFC bouts since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter 5 in 2007, including recent wins over Jim Miller, Roger Huerta, and Nate Diaz, but was passed by Frankie Edgar for an April title shot.
Edgar made the most of the opportunity as he upset Penn to win the 155-pound title at UFC 112, and the pair now rematch in the main event of UFC 118.
