Phil Davis Steps In to Face Rodney Wallace at UFC 117
UFC News – MMA And UFC News From Syndicated Sources
Newcomer Stanislav Nedkov has withdrawn from his scheduled UFC debut against Rodney Wallace at UFC 117, but undefeated light heavyweight Phil Davis will step in on short notice and meet Wallace on the preliminary card of the August 7 event in Oakland, California.
A 2008 NCAA Division I wrestling champion at Penn State, Davis(6-0) earned a unanimous decision over former WEC champ Brian Stann in his UFC debut in February, then scored a first-round TKO of Alexander Gustafsson in April to improve to 6-0.
Wallace (9-2) will have to pull off the upset if he hopes to remain on the UFC roster following back-to-back unanimous decision losses to Stann and Jared Hamman.
