Undefeated prospect Tyron Woodley will meet fellow welterweight Nathan Coy in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 8 on May 21 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, while Kerry Vera is set to face Julianna Pena in a featured 135-pound women’s bout at the Showtime-televised event, Strikeforce announced on Friday.
Woodley (6-0) remained unbeaten with a first-round submission of Rudy Bears in November in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 5 , his sixth-straight submission and fifth opening round stoppage, while Coy (8-2) holds notable wins over Rick Story and Mike Pierce and is currently riding a three-fight win streak.
Vera (2-0) made her Strikeforce debut in November, scoring a first-round knockout of Kim Couture, while Pena (2-0) also stands at 2-0 following a second-round submission of Stephanie Webber at a December CageSport event in Washington.
