UFC 117 Medical Suspensions and Injuries: Anderson Silva Out Up to Six Months

A rib injury revealed after his come-from-behind win over Chael Sonnen in the UFC 117 main event could sideline UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva for up to six months, according to medical suspensions released Monday by the California State Athletic Commission.
Also suspended for 180 days were Rafael dos Anjos, Phil Davis, Tim Boetsch, and Christian Morecraft, while Sonnen will sit out 60 days for cuts suffered in the Aug. 7 loss in Oakland, California.
The UFC 117 medical suspensions and injuries were:
- Anderson Silva: suspended 180 days unless cleared by doctor for possible rib fracture; minimum 45 day suspension
- Chael Sonnen: suspended 60 days for a laceration
- Rafael dos Anjos: suspended 180 days unless cleared by doctor for broken jaw (dos Anjos has already undergone surgery after his jaw was broken in two places in the opening round)
- Junior dos Santos: suspended 60 days for right cheek laceration
- Roy Nelson: suspended 45 days for precautionary reasons
- Dustin Hazelett: suspended 45 days for precautionary reasons
- Phil Davis: suspended 180 unless cleared by doctor for possible right pinkie fracture
- Charlie Brenneman: suspended 45 days for precautionary reasons
- Tim Boetsch: suspended 180 days unless cleared by doctor for right thumb fracture; suspended 60 days for facial laceration
- Todd Brown: suspended 60 days for laceration
- Stefan Struve: suspended 60 days for lower lip laceration
- Christian Morecraft: suspended 180 days unless cleared by doctor for precautionary reasons; suspended 60 days for right eyebrow laceration
- Dennis Hallman: suspended 60 days for a left cheek laceration
- Ben Saunders: suspended 45 days for precautionary reasons
